UBC Startup Using Wood Waste to Neutralize Forever Chemicals
A new startup from the University of British Columbia’s Chemical and Biological Engineering department, called ReAct Materials, is using wood waste to create a new type of filtration system that not only captures but also neutralizes forever chemicals.
These forever chemicals, per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are known for their unique properties of being resistant to heat, water, oil and other chemicals.
The ReAct Materials team has developed an adsorption filter made from wood waste that contains a catalyst that helps break the chemicals down. Read more about this new wood-based technology that can neutralize forever chemicals here.
